First Century Ride

Saturday, the 18th of April (Paul Revere's ride today 234 years ago). 430 miles to go. I am at the Walterboro, SC library. Gorgeous building with about 12 computers for guests. Now I know why Adventure Cycling showed libraries on their maps!!!

100.41 miles after doodling around in the Ramada parking lot. A real century on flat land with mostly a following breeze through quiet farm land, swamps, and tiny towns of rural SC. One hitch yesterday---my road crossed I-26 but had been damaged and way closed. Took the detour for 2 miles, then got info the bridge was only closed to cars. Retraced my steps and crossed the bridge on which a truck had hit the rail and burned. Mess was cleaned up but the bridge remained closed.

Short day today then some 70 milers. Getting close!!

  1. Very impressive Dad. A full 100 miles is quite a journey so well done. Drink lots of water in that heat. Down here we have flirted with the 90s a couple times so get ready.

  3. WOWEE is right! Can't think of a better description.

I guess all that March madness paid off. Not only did you make it to the final four, you won the whole darn thing - well almost anyway. But heck, with only 430 miles to go and at your current pace that's only 5-6 days max. Is it time to slow down and smell the roses? Or maybe a side trip to Alabama? Travel restrictions to Cuba are being relaxed so if you run out of land at Key West maybe there's a new option...

I gotta go. Time for a bike ride. If I don't get some miles in I'll never be able to keep up with you when you get back.

    Happy Trails! Al
