April 24 - Friday night and Ed's in the "warm shower" host's camper, just north of Folkston, GA on the border with Florida.  He and his host, Arthur, probably went out for pizza and a look at the trains - apparently Amtrak runs through town.  So food and entertainment - he's a happy guy.  He'll cross into Florida in the morning and just hope the heat abates a bit - his bike thermometer read 100 at one point today, and Ed figures that without the road heat it was about 95.  Buggy, too, as they're near the edge of the swamp.    But he's having fun and feels good - I think he said it was about 75 miles today.   He'll check in "in person" when he finds some internet.

  1. Wow, you're knocking on Florida's door! WELL DONE! Find some shade under a palm tree and keep your distance from those alligators in the Okefenokee. What a great name for a swamp.

Seems like you're way ahead of schedule. Is that true? We'll miss you on our rides with the Bristol gang. When you get back you'll be out front with the hammerheads and you'll be a speck in the distance.

Happy trails & pedal on! Al

  2. Alittle ahead---if I pushed it I could be there by Tuesday, but the heat has taken some of the stuffing out of me. Feels good all in all. Almost 1200 miles.

  3. Caboose (Arthur)

Ed arrived near the time we plan to meet. we went out to see Folkston after Ed showered and got ready. Ed and I went out to have Pizza. I took Ed by to see the Folkston Funnel Platform, that is where Train Fans come from all over the world to watch trains. We have a Internet connection, fans and lights for night viewing. Also we tour the Traders Hill Campground, the St. Marys river runs by there. Traders Hill Campground is just off Hwy 121 bike route. We drove down main street and then returned to the camper. Ed is a good guest and I would have him back anytime. Really had a good time as a host.
    Happy Trails Ed.

  4. The night we played three truths and a lie sitting on hay bales around your campfire, one of my truths told of being wrongly accused of shoplifting in St.Augustine. And there, you are, almost! Thanks for bringing us along on a blog journey. Must be exciting to be so close now. I look forward to our next Vermont ride, we'll have to put bricks in your pack...Lynn
